How to play Poker (5 cards)



Every game starts with the cards given to the players by the dealer and after which each participant makes a bet or quits out of the game. The winner is the only one who hands the most powerful combination of 5 cards or one who will be able to “squeeze out” all opponent players by his or her highe bets (including cheating behavior) until this player will remain the only one at the table.

It is important to remember all the combinations of cards including those for games with a joker since this will help to make quick decisions during the game. It is also equally important to develop key skills of poker player such as patience and concentration. The important thing here is psychology in terms of the ability of “reading” your opponents as well as clear thinking and a certain courage. And yet, a very important thing is the ability to hold yourself i.e. do not show your emotions and do not comment anything during the game. Only ads are possible and no emotions!

How to play Poker

A few things to keep in mind for a new player. The cards should be kept above the table in order to avoid any confusion. If you want to discard you need to do so in a way that no one noticed their color or rank. It is prohibited to look in other people’s cards and if someone from the players broke that rule the player who noticed that must report publicly. If you have shown your cards to someone for any reason you are to notify all players about that.

Remember that when you are trying to predict possible moves for other players you must take into account the nature of that particular player and that is why the most of professional players play in the dark glasses. In this respect if you are learning how to play poker in the company of friends it’s easier since you will gradually learn to predict not only moves, but the opponent’s intentions, based on his psychology.

The rules

Poker is known as a smart kind of card game for 2 to10 people. There are several varieties in poker like Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Seven Card Stud, Russian poker etc. But for all poker varieties there are several common things like a common bank, which consists of rates of all players. In each game the bank wins only one player who has the best combination of cards or the player makes a bet that the other players do not accept. Let’s look at the rules of poker more closely.

At first, for each kind of poker there are general rules which are similar. All of poker games start with a forced bet. The rules of Seven Card Stud poker force the players to place two bets i.e. the ante and so called bring-in whereas the rules of Texas Poker offers small and big blinds. Using the available in-game action the players make bets:

  • Check – if there was no bets yet it is allowed to continue the game without bet placement;
  • Bet – it is the first rate in the disk;
  • Fold – when the player makes rejection of the current game;
  • Call – when you want to call a bet;
  • Raise – increasing of the current bets and all of the following players either must take this bet by making a call or again to increase it by making a raise.

Secondly, poker rules also brings the fact that in each round of betting continues until the last player sitting to the right of to bet or raise. In the last round all the players are to showdown their cards. The player with the best combination wins the pot. There are cases which sometimes happen when the cards are not being shown and it occurs when a player makes a bet, and the rest of the players do fold.
